Ten Months Old and Covering Good Ground...

After a couple of worried glances at the rain outside this morning and a few 'are you sure its supposed to fine up?' discussions with Saads, we got our shizzle together and headed out to my favourite spot in Auckland - Cascade Kauri at the northern end of the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. In my pre-fatherhood days I spent many weekends chore dodging out in this awesome spot, its the largest tract of unlogged Kauri in the region - a great place to collect good thoughts or dispel crap ones.

We headed up the upper Kauri Track as far as the Twin Kauri, the huge tree in the photograph on the right. Its one of only two twin boled Kauri I've come across - the other is in the Bay of Islands - quite incredible to see. On the way up Liam 'Pinchy' McNamee was not happy to wear his hat so that came off and got chewed on for a while - so we started to worry about him getting a bit too much sun and gave him a good dousing in SPF 30. We stopped for lunch and he became a bit more receptive to the idea of wearing the hat, then a few minutes later and a few metres down the track he fell asleep in the pack. Amazing - put him in his comfy bed and he'll kick up a stink - put him in a backpack and hes out like a light.

He's got a few new tricks up his sleeve now that hes a big ten month old - he loves to walk around holding one of our fingers in each hand for stability, and gets shitty if we don't participate in this whole heartedly (still no sign of real crawling) and he can now feed himself milk formula from a cup with handles. I'm very proud...
